Community News

It's been a busy time at St Barnabas lately! We've celebrated at weddings and baptisms, joined together at community events and we've recently said goodbye to the Coomber Family, who will be sorely missed! June and July are still looking busy so keep an eye on the news sheet to keep up to date!

Pentecost Sunday & Platinum Jubilee

Last week we had a busy bank holiday weekend celebrating with the Churches in Tuffley, Tuffley Court and at St Barnabas. Pentecost Sunday celebrates the birthday of Christianity, the day the Holy Spirit came down to earth and descended on the disciples and followers of Jesus. It was wonderful to have members of Scouting join in the procession and there was an interesting moment where Ian Todd's book caught fire during his talk (this was actually intentional...watch the full service from June 5th on YouTube).

After the service we had a BBQ lunch in the hall to celebrate the jubilee and to say goodbye to the Coombers. Thank you to everyone who brought food, cooked the BBQ and organised the event! We had some wonderful entries for the "Make your own Jubilee Hat" competition and congratulations to Hazel and Sue for winning the prize!

Goodbye Coombers!

Catherine, Paul, Lauren and Brad have been worshipping at St Barnabas for many years and we have been blessed by their gifts as well as by their friendship. Although we are sad to see them go, we are also excited for their new journey!

Catherine is due to be ordained on Sunday 19th June at 10:15am in Gloucester Cathedral before moving to her new post as Assistant Curate of St George's Church and Cam and St Cyr's Church, Stinchcombe. If you would like to attend but need help with travel, please let us know as we can arrange a lift. Please note there will be no 10:30am service at St Barnabas on this Sunday. All are welcome to worship at 8:00am at St Barnabas or there is a 10:30am service at St George's Church.

Please pray for the Coombers during this time of transitions and for the Vicar, The Revd Fiona Crocker and the church families of Cam and Stinchcombe.

Bible Course

This week saw the beginning of a new bible course run by Sue Duligall. The course takes place on a Thursday at 10:30am in the side chapel in church. All are welcome, even if you've missed the first session.

The course is a great opportunity for those who are new to the bible or who want to go deeper, to look at how all the books, characters and events fit together to from one BIG story from Genesis to Revelation. If you'd like to join then please get in touch.

Coming up!

The Big Quiz!

Get your quizzing hats on and bring your general knowledge. St Barnabas is hosting an all age quiz event on Friday 17th June from 7.00pm-9.00pm in church. All are welcome and we encourage teams of 2s, 3s and 4s! If you would like to come but currently don't have a team then let us know. Tickets are £2.50 each. The Tranquility Garden

After months of hard work, the Tranquility Garden is finished and open for anyone who would like to spend a quiet moment. If you haven't been over the road to the hall side then take a trip next time you are around church. The garden will have it's official opening in the coming weeks and we will soon be publishing an interview with Katherine Kear, as she explains the fascinating process of building the garden as well as the symbolism and meaning behind everything it it.

Bright Sparks

We are pleased to announce that our pre-school and primary age ministry will be starting up again on Sunday 26th June. We will be meeting in the hall at 10:30am for a session full of fun, activities, food, prayer and singing. Parents are very welcome to stay with their children if they would like to. For more information, please get in touch with Revd Sarah Todd.

The Summer Fayre

Get the date in your diary! This years Summer Fayre is taking place on Saturday 16th July - times to be confirmed. So far, we have a raffle, cake stall, sweets, hand made knitted items and entertainment. More details to come soon!
