Children, Young People & Families

at St Barnabas, Gloucester

What's on on Sundays!

  • Our Sunday morning Children's, Youth and Family Ministry
At St Barnabas, children, young people, and families are a priority. We believe every child is loved by God, made in His image, and has a special place in His story. Jesus welcomed children and reminded us that God’s kingdom belongs to them, and we want to follow His example. The Bible encourages us to pass on our faith to the next generation, sharing stories of God’s love and helping young people grow in their own relationship with Him. We want St Barnabas to be a place where children, young people and their families feel safe, valued, and free to ask big questions about life and faith. As grown ups, we also feel we have a lot to learn from them! Families come in all shapes and sizes, and we’re here to support and encourage each one. When we learn and grow together, we all get to see more of who God is. We are also aware that in some families there may be different theologies, faiths and beliefs. Please share this with us if you think it would be helpful. Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me”. That’s our heart too — to be a welcoming, loving community where children, young people, and families can experience God’s love and discover how much they matter to Him. On Sundays we gather together for worship on the 1st Sunday of the month at 10.30. For the other Sundays in the month our 3-18 year olds have their own activities in the halls with registration from 10:15. 0-3 year olds are warmly welcome in church. We have toys and age appropriate activities to help them engage with the theme of the day. In the week we have our Tiny Tots Stay and Play Group for babies and preschoolers and their grown ups each Wednesday from 09:30 and our Young People meet fortnightly at Youth Group on a Sunday evening and for bible study in their small group fortnightly on a Thursday evening.
  • What do we do on a Sunday morning?
During our Sunday morning sessions, our children’s and young people engage with the same Bible themes as the adults. That means you can chat together about what you've learned and explore how it applies to your lives. It’s a great way to grow in faith as a family! We offer an age-appropriate programme led by our wonderful, DBS-checked team. There’s plenty of fun with energetic storytelling, worship, prayer, and creative activities to help everyone engage with God’s word. And of course, there are always some yummy snacks to enjoy! If you child/young person has additional needs, please let us know. We're here to make sure they feel safe, loved, and excited to learn more about Jesus.
  • Registration
Registration for our Children and Young People's groups is at 10:15 am in the Church Halls (over the road). Please go with your child to register and remember to collect them at the end of our worship time!
  • Do I need/Can I stay with my child?
We may ask you to stay with your child if they are between 3-5 years old. If for any reason you prefer to stay with your child/children/young person, please chat with Naomi Owen and she can explore this with you.

At St Barnabas, children, young people, and families are right at the heart of our church. We believe every child is loved by God, made in His image, and has a special place in His story (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-14). Jesus welcomed children and reminded us that God’s kingdom belongs to them (Mark 10:13-16), and we want to follow His example.

The Bible encourages us to pass on our faith to the next generation (Deuteronomy 6:5-7), sharing stories of God’s love and helping young people grow in their own relationship with Him. We want St Barnabas to be a place where children feel safe, valued, and free to ask big questions about life and faith.

Families come in all shapes and sizes, and we’re here to support and encourage each one. We believe every generation has something to offer, and when we learn and grow together, we all get to see more of who God is.

Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me” (Matthew 18:5). We strive to be a welcoming, loving community where children, young people, and families can experience God’s love and discover how much they matter to Him.
